Macular hole
The macula is the part of the retina responsible for the vision of detail. A macular hole occurs when there is a split in part or all its thickness.
Usually it is present in people over 55, more in women. Most cases go without an apparent cause. However, there are certain pathologies that increase the risk such as pathological myopia, epiretinal membranes, diabetes, traction or trauma.
The typical symptoms are blurred vision, distortion or a dark spot in the center.
